Annika Mikołajko-Osman

Doctor of Musical Arts, coloratura soprano, soloist, chamber musician, multi-instrumentalist, actress, teacher, graduate of the Academy of Music in Krakow at the Faculty of Artistic Education and Rhythmics and the Faculty of Vocal and Acting, graduate of the Academy of Music in Katowice and postgraduate studies in

Culture Management at the Jagiellonian University.

In 2025, she defended her doctoral thesis at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow, which she devoted to contemporary vocal music on the borderline between instrumental theater and performance.

As a soprano, she performs opera, oratorio, musical, early, and contemporary music. She has premiered numerous works by composers from around the world. She performs as a soloist at national and international festivals, actively participates as a speaker at academic conferences, and publishes academic articles on music.

Olga Miriam Michałowska

Pianist, soloist, chamber musician specializing in contemporary music performance. She graduated from the Karol Lipiński Primary and Secondary Music School in Lublin, where she studied piano with Prof. Teresa Księska-Falger, and then from the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow, where she studied piano with Dr. Piotr Kowal. In 2021, she began studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne in Paulo Alvares’ piano class as part of an Erasmus scholarship.

Her artistic activity focuses largely on performing 20th- and 21st-century music, both solo and in chamber ensembles. She has participated in numerous projects devoted to contemporary music and in the premieres of works by composers from her alma mater and beyond.

As a solo pianist, she performs at festivals in Poland and abroad and participates in festivals and academic conferences focused on the performance, creation, and interpretation of contemporary music.

Since 2019, Annika and Olga have been collaborating on chamber projects related to the performance of contemporary music. Since 2022, they have been co-creating a duo specializing in 20th and 21st century music. In addition to their concert activities, they also conduct educational concerts and workshops for children and young people on improvisation, graphic scores, and the performance of new music.

ARTISTIC PART OF DOCTORAL THESIS

The recording comes from the Special Concert „Contemporary vocal works in a different way, i.e. involving the singer in stage actions and instrumental playing”. The concert is the artistic part of the doctoral thesis of PhD Annika Mikołajko-Osman prepared under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Tomasz Sobaniec and PhD Iwona Sowińska-Fruhtrunk.

The concert featured Olga Miriam Michałowska (piano, celesta), Aleksandra Wtorek (percussion), Karolina Bizukojć (saxophone), Nadim Husni (conductor) and Annika Mikołajko-Osman (soprano, bones, glass harp, percussion instruments, piano, conductor).

Pianist – don’t be afraid to improvise!

project implemented as part of the Small Grants ‘Square Metres for Art’ within the 5th edition of the Cultural Education Programme ‘Krakow Archipelago of Culture’ 2025: ‘The Art of Cooperation’

As part of the project, a series of workshops for children and young people was held, devoted to contemporary musical notation, the creation of graphic scores and tap dancing to films.
